Year after year, Carmel ranks among the top cities to raise a family in the United States. With top-performing schools, a budding arts and design district, and a variety of housing options, it is easy to see why.
Downtown Carmel, also referred to as the Arts and Design District, has been recently reconstructed to accommodate more mixed-use buildings and leverage the nearby Monon Trail and it's increased foot traffic. A mix of old and new, you can find condos, detached residential, and first floor commercial spaces. Specialty shops, wine bars, and top tier restaurants dot Main Street. The recently constructed Palladium was a massive undertaking for the city, and draws world-class artists, musicians, and actors. Brick paved streets remind visitors of it's small town (pop. 80,000) authenticity.
Outside of the city, you can find a variety of both residential and commercial development. The corridor between Meridian and Pennsylvania on 116th Street is home to some of the areas largest corporations, and is continually growing and developing new and innovative commercial space. Clay Terrace offers visitors an unrivaled shopping experience. Home to one of the state's only high-end outdoor malls, Clay Terrace has opened up development all across the 146th and US-31 intersection.
Residents can take part in a variety of city-wide events, the largest of which, Carmelfest, takes place each summer. The recently opened Monon Center is home to pools, a world-class workout facility, and outdoor parks. It is packed year-round with those looking to improve their wellness and make friends with like-minded neighbors.
As mentioned above, Carmel boasts some of the best schools in the state. Consistently ranked in the top 5, graduates have some of the highest college bound rates around. Aside from fantastic academics, the athletic department continually churns out state champions. Whether it is their top-rated basketball team, always competitive football team, or the girls swimming team (who have set a state record of 28 straight state titles) you can count on a tough outing any time you square up with the greyhounds.
